A mber is nature’s most beautiful gem, produced from fossilized resin of ancient pine trees that grew along the shores of the Baltic Sea 40 to 60 million years ago. It is one of the oldest gems known to man. Although the translucent deep yellow form is most common, amber can be found in many colors ranging from almost black, through green, to rare opaque white and ivory. Each piece is distinct for its visible inclusions consisting of air bubbles, seeds, leaves and bark that were locked inside as the resin hardened. Occasionally one may even find a perfectly preserved insect fossil.
